Effective Family Resilience SSCB Workshops
Effective Family Resilience”, Surrey Safeguarding Children Board’s Level of Need document will be formally launched on 1 February 2019. This will affect the lives of children and their families living in Surrey and was agreed by all our partners. Workshops are being rolled out to all staff and partners to inform them of the document and how we can effectively work together to support families.
Target Group: All practitioners and managers in voluntary, independent and statutory agencies who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could contribute to supporting and developing resilience in children and families.
Course Aim: To understand and be able to effectively implement Surrey’s new levels of need (Effective Family Resilience and Family Safeguarding models).
What is Effective Family Resilience?
We want to promote the upbringing of children within their birth families and will work with those families to ensure children can remain safely at home. Effective Family Resilience explains how together we will act as soon as problems emerge, share information and provide effective, timely support to enable children and their families to overcome difficulties and become more resilient so that they can manage future life challenges independently.
Some children need extra help to achieve their potential and this may be because they have additional needs or because of family circumstances, adversity or events outside their control. We want to identify and help these children and their families at the earliest opportunity in ways that do not leave them feeling singled out as different.
Early help may be offered at any point in a child or young person’s life. We seek to offer support early to help families solve problems or to reduce the impact of problems that have already emerged. To do this we need to work together in an open way with the child and their family to gain their confidence, identify strengths and needs, to find practical and achievable solutions, and to provide the right amount of information, advice and support.
The Early Help approach will be called ‘Family Resilience’ and the Social Work practice model ‘Family Safeguarding’. Within this we have identified four levels of need: Universal, Early Help, Targeted Early Help, and Specialist. These are set out in more detail in the workshops
The training will be multi-agency and will consist of a briefing on the thresholds and case studies.
It is an excellent opportunity to network with partners and to get a better understanding of the work done across the partnership.
Please note: individuals must create their own account. There is no facility for one person to create an account in their name and book places for numerous numbers of staff. If you are booking on behalf of another member of staff you need to register in their name rather than your own.

There are fire evacuation procedures on the wall, please read these as soon as you arrive.
There is a first aid kit on site, if you need first aid and the person cannot return to Quadrant Court, please call reception on 01483 519900, and we will send a qualified first aider.
Toilets are on the left hand side as you enter the building.
There is a kitchen with hot water supplies but no coffee or tea, coffee/tea can be brought with you if you wish to use these facilities but unfortunately are not supplied by the venue.
We recommend coming by public transport as there isn’t car parking at the venue but if you need to travel by car we suggest that you use the pay and display car parking at Heathside Crescent near to the venue as there unfortunately is not parking directly at the venue.
PLEASE READ: that the Annexe is a short walk away from Quadrant Court in a slightly separate building but you will need to go to Quadrant Court reception first to collect an entry code to the building.
