Early Years New to Role Training for Designated Safeguarding Leads in Surrey Early Years Settings (Virtual)

This course is delivered by Surrey County Council Education Safeguarding Team and this is an online version of the previous training run through Micrososft Teams. This course is for newly appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, and appropriate members of the setting’s safeguarding teams in Early Years Settings.
Please note: this DSL training is specifically for Early Years settings only.
To enrol on this course DSLs must have completed the Working Together to Safeguard Children introduction course and if not already done so, must attend or be booked on to the Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) Multi-Agency Core Safeguarding Children Training, Foundation Modules 1 and 2.
Target Group: The course is for staff who are recently appointed or will soon be appointed to the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) in Early Years settings.
Course Aim: This course is an introduction for DSLs and DDSLs to develop an understanding of their role in taking the lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection. The course will enhance knowledge and skills to enable delegates to lead a culture of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children within their education provision.
By the end of the course participants will:
• The role of the DSL including policies and procedures
• Safeguarding key legislation and guidance
• Identifying concerns and working with parents
• Risk management
• Effective Family Resilience and making a request for support
• Learning from Serious Case Reviews
• Managing allegations against staff the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
• Sharing information and record keeping
