Participants must have completed
- ‘Working Together to Safeguarding Children’ Induction Training or have completed an approved alternative course. An exemption checklist can be found at www.surreyscb.org.uk
Target Group: The course is aimed at practitioners and managers in voluntary, independent and statutory agencies who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. This will include practitioners who are or will be designated safeguarding leads for their organisations.
Course Aim: This course will provide staff, who are new to child protection work, with an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and the ability to work together on the processes for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including those who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm.
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Explored attitudes and values which may affect the practice of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Developed an awareness of relevant legislation, guidance and procedures including section 17 and 47 enquiries (Children Act 1989)
- Considered thresholds and taking appropriate action
- Considered interagency roles and responsibilities
- Considered lessons from Serious Case Reviews

Please note: individuals must create their own account. There is no facility for one person to create an account in their name and book places for numerous numbers of staff. If you are booking on behalf of another member of staff you need to register in their name rather than your own.

By Train: The Church is 100 metres from the railway station and town centre bus stops.
From the West/South West: Take M3 to Junction 4 – Frimley, and follow signs to A30 Camberley. Continue on A30, through several sets of traffic lights until you reach a set of traffic lights with White Audi Garage on the corner. Turn right into Knoll Road and at the first mini roundabout turn left into the car park behind Arts Link Theatre. High Cross Church is on the right. From the East Take M3 to Junction 3 – Lightwater, and take 3rd exit on roundabout. Follow signs to A30 Camberley. Continue on A30 until you reach a set of traffic lights with White Audi Garage on the corner. Turn left into Knoll Road and at the first mini roundabout turn left into the car park behind Arts Link Theatre. High Cross Church is on the right.
From the South (Guildford & Farnham): Follow Blackwater Valley Road, A331 to A30. At the Meadows Roundabout, continue on A30 through several sets of traffic lights until you reach a set of traffic lights with White Audi Garage on the corner. Turn right into Knoll Road and at the first mini roundabout turn left into the car park behind Arts Link Theatre. High Cross Church is on the right.
The Church has a car park at the rear of the building together with a number of marked spaces in the Portesbery Road car park. Hirers may use these spaces but should be aware that between the hours of 9am and 6pm, parking is controlled by the local council, whose officials will impose a fixed penalty charge on vehicles not displaying a permit. Permits are only valid while the holder is in the Church and may be obtained on the day from the office, which is open from 9am to 5pm. A charge of £1 will be levied.
There is also a multi-storey public car park a short way down Knoll Road behind the church.
Refreshments: There is a cafe onsite and local shops within walking distance.
